EDWIN C. GRAVES

Edwin C. Graves has been a government relations consultant in Washington, D.C. for the past 15 years, following a 12-year career in the U.S. Senate, and joined The Furman Group in November, 1998.

After a career in political journalism, he came to Washington in 1969 and joined the newly-elected Senator Walter D. Huddleston of Kentucky in 1973. He served as press secretary for six years and then six years as administrative assistant.

Upon leaving the Senate, Mr. Graves worked for six years as a senior government- relations advisor to a Washington law firm. He then spent a year as senior vice-president in the government relations group of the Washington office of Hill & Knowlton.

In 1991, Mr. Graves established his own independent consulting firm, specializing in lobbying and monitoring the Senate and House and federal agencies. He also provided public relations advice and strategic analysis on issues on Capitol Hill.

Since joining The Furman Group, he has continued to focus on appropriations, agriculture, and tax issues as well as foreign policy matters. He maintains close relations with key members of the Democratic Caucus and serves on several advisory committees.

During his career as a government relations specialist, Mr. Graves has represented clients on a variety of issues including local government, taxes, transportation, aviation, defense, education, trade, agriculture, energy, utilities, ocean fishing, foreign relations, privatization and natural resources.

He has dealt with numerous federal departments and agencies including the Departments of Transportation, Energy, Commerce, Education, Agriculture, Defense, State and Interior.

Mr. Graves worked closely with the Senate Appropriations and Agriculture Committees while with Senator Huddleston and in the private sector. During his consulting career, he has represented clients before practically every committee in the Senate and House.
